The more I look and explore DHH’s Omarchy system, the more I am impressed with what he has been able to do. While creating Cloudyy I often take inspiration from Omarchy, while I am not trying to directly copy it, instead provide an alternative to it, I am extremely impressed with what it offers.

First of all I think the ISO itself is great. 2 minute install time, from boot into live ISO to being on the desktop. The OOBE experience is great, Omarchy displays just 3 notifications that guide the user to figure out the system straight away. Omarchy has the best of Windows and MacOS while being it’s own and original thing. There are still some things I do not like, lack of easy theming is one, you get what comes with Omarchy + what other people make, but as a newbie it is a little difficult to really customise it to your own liking.

When I used Omarchy that was the thing that bothered me most, it never truly felt like my own, which is fine for some people, but those who love to tinker would not be exactly satisfied. Yet again, for those who love to tinker, they can always make their own rice and call it a day, and that is where Cloudyy comes in…

Cloudyy over Omarchy?

As the creator of the system it would be reasonable for me to call it the best thing since X and tell everyone to use it, but I am not going to do that. What I am instead doing is comparing it to the best thing out there for most. Omarchy suits people because it’s easy, but it is not familiar to everyone.

My greatest Cloudyy muse would be MacOS; the dock, spotlight, settings menu, all so well designed and so flawlessly integrated, at some point I even thought of switching to a MacBook as my main laptop, but the Hyprland experience has made me too used to the workflow of tiling windows. Hence why I set out to make Cloudyy.

Cloudyy itself is very similar to Omarchy, it is easy to learn, easy to navigate and easy to work in, once I am ready to ship the ISO for Cloudyy it will be just as easy to install as Omarchy, but provide a brand new and original experience.

With Cloudyy I ship several Mac-like features, for instance spotlight, a search bar that comes up with command + k, just like on MacOS it allows you to search for anything; file? Yeah, folder? Yeah, app? Yeah, you can do basic math inside of spotlight, currency conversion and you can browse the web.

Next there is cloud centre settings menu, customise everything; user stuff, hyprland settings, system settings, whatever, and everything get’s written locally to your system only.
